IBM / Hitachi laptop hard disk drive
failure - Data recovery information
Manufactured in great quantites, the
Travelstar was made for a long time by IBM. Hitachi now
continue to make the Travelstar.
| Common IBM Travelstar models:
IC25N020ATCS04, ICN020ATDA04 (both 20Gb), IC25N030ATCS04,
IC25N030ATDA04 (both 30Gb), other IC25 series, DJSA series,
DARA series etc. Common Hitachi Travelstar models:
IC25N060ATMR04 (60Gb), IC25N080ATMR04 (80Gb), and later
models beginning 'HT' eg. HTS548040M9AT00, HTE726060M9AT00

Symptoms: There are two common types
of failure with these drives:
(1) The machine will fail to boot and the drive will not be
recognised in the BIOS. A (sometimes) quiet regular
"ticking" noise will be heard from the drive
(2) The machine will fail to boot and the drive will not be
recognised in the BIOS. No sound will be heard from the
drive - not even the sound of platter rotation, the drive
will appear to be dead |
 |
Cause: There are numerous causes of
these problems, though quite often the Travelstar will fail
in a similar way
Recovery possibilities: Asia
datarecovery can usually perform a full recovery from Travelstars
that fail with the above symptoms.
What if I have one of these drives but
the symptoms are different?: This is quite possible,
they are still prone to all the other problems hard disks
suffer from ie. mechnical failure, logical failure, bad
sectors etc.
What should I do?: Call the Data
Clinic and talk your problem through with us on:65-67461909, or fill out
the request form, and we'll call you back

Please note that all
modern hard disk drives are manufactured to very high
standards, fail infrequently and have very similar rates of
reliability.
